I'm Dr Emma Hepburn, also known as The Psychology Mum - a clinical psychologist, author, speaker and illustrator passionate about making mental health, wellbeing and neuroscience accessible for everyone.

I’ve spent over 20 years working in mental health and neuropsychology, helping people understand and care for their minds.

Alongside my clinical practice, I write books, speak and chair events, create illustrations and work with organisations to support mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. I also love collaborating with brands and the media to make psychology feel more human, practical and creative.

My approach blends science, compassion and lived experience - because I believe psychology shouldn’t feel distant or clinical, but something we can all use to live healthier, more sustainable lives.

A few years ago, I found myself completely burnt out. I knew the theory - but living it was something else entirely. That experience taught me what it really means to stop, rest and rebuild.

I wrote this book in the hope that it helps you feel less alone, and gives you simple, science-based tools to understand, prevent and recover from burnout.

It’s a warm and practical companion to help you reconnect with yourself, protect your energy and rediscover what matters most.
